Learn to row this summer at Alfred’s Rowing
Club
“ROW
SCHOOL”
Alfred's
Rowing Club, the oldest sports club in the country, is offering the
chance to discover the wonders of this glorious sport by running a
four-week "Row School". This is aimed at those who have always
wanted to try rowing, people wishing to
improve
their fitness in a natural fun environment, and parents of rowers
who are tired of sitting on the bank, watching their offspring skim
across the water in an enthusiastic crew.
The course runs over from 29 October to 19 November
and sessions last from 08h00 to 11h00.
Newcomers will be introduced to the delightful art
of rowing and the vital aspects of water safety and boat
care. Coaching the course is Devin Cripwell, MSc (Exercise
Science) with many years of experience as a rower
and rowing coach. He currently coaches the UCT Men's B
squad and is the Personal Training Manager at Virgin Active,
Claremont.
The fee is R600 and covers the cost of tuition, use of
specifically allocated boats, and use of the clubhouse parking,
tearoom, changeroom and showers for the period of the course.
Additionally, this entitles you to a R300 membership
discount.
Snug-fitting clothing, e.g. cycling shorts and top will
ensure maximum enjoyment. Loose clothing catches in the runners and
snags in the oars. Sunscreen, cap and a water bottle
essential.
Each
session is weather dependent. A wind check an hour before will
result in sms notifications confirming the session. Under adverse
conditions, the session will be rescheduled for the next day, Sunday
morning,
weather
permitting, or in the week after the course has
begun.
We look forward to seeing many enthusiastic newcomers who
hopefully will go on to have many years of rowing
enjoyment.
